The drum at the door

The drum at the door

At Sora’s first U.S. location, a drum strike welcomes each arriving guest. Founded in 1885, our restaurant has built a lasting relationship of trust with a long-established flour milling company that has been in business for over a century. We use traditional stone-ground buckwheat flour to bring out the authentic flavor of soba.
Hot and cold soba

Hot and cold soba

"Our soba is delicious on its own—and even more delightful with dashi soup.” Beyond aroma, we strive to achieve the perfect balance of taste, texture, and smoothness in every noodle. Our soba is not just “noodles from a soba shop,” but an evolution of tradition—pursuing soba as washoku, the Japanese culinary culture now shared around the world.
Goma zaru and ten zaru

Goma zaru and ten zaru

Look for goma zaru, duck soba, and ten zaru among the featured selections. For your first bite, we invite you to taste the noodles on their own to experience the pure fragrance and essence of soba.

The food here is authentic and well-prepared — you can really tell it reflects a traditional Japanese style. Everything I tried was nicely done and flavorful, and the quality comes through in the details. The portions are on the smaller side, so depending on your appetite, it may feel a bit light for the price. Overall, a good spot if you’re looking for authentic flavors and don’t mind a lighter portion.

The duck was very tender and the broth has a hint of citrus. The leeks are also flavorful. Loved taking bits of the shiso leaf with each bite. The shrimp tempura was giant and meaty. The matcha salt and the ground radish and ginger 🧑‍🍳 chef's kiss. Got it for takeout, and the packaging was neat and clean.

After walking around Japantown, we were looking for a clean, relaxing spot and found Sora Dining Soba. We put our name on the list, waited outside for a few minutes, and got seated at the bar. The staff was super friendly from the start. We ordered a bottle of Dassai 45 sake, which was excellent. The hot chicken soup hit the spot and had fantastic flavor. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

I was in the area in search of some thing to eat and this restaurant was the only option considering nothing else was open (& I’m glad I came here). I believe this restaurant is six months old, the interior is very clean with a cozy aesthetic. I ordered the Kamo Namban (the duck soba) and the chips, it was delicious. I will definitely come back again soon.

Minimalist soba spot tucked in Japantown. Authentic noodles, crispy tempura, and that calm Japanese restaurant vibe you wish more places had.
